SanDisk SSD works well with MacBook Pro (2009, 2012)

I bought 2 of these to use with my old MacBook Pros. The 480GB model sold for $99 and I was in the market. In my case the plan was to install instead of an internal rotating boot drive and then do a clean install (Yosemite mid 2009) and Sierra (mid 2012). Installation was easy, there are several videos on YouTube. I would classify it as "EASY". Following instructions easy to find on the web, I have already created a USB flash installer for MACOS. The system was powered on with a new SSD installed and the OPTION key held down. I was able to select the USB stick that had the installer on it (the SSD drive isn't shown at this point). From there, it's easy to use Disk Utility to format the SSD and then install a fresh instance of MACOS. Simple and easy. It's not the fastest SSD, as several reviewers have noted, but it does noticeably improve system boot and disk access speeds for older MacBook Pro laptops. However, unlike others, I'm not deducting a star because SanDisk doesn't position itself as the fastest product. A 5 star product for the price. I can't say anything about reliability yet but SanDisk has a solid reputation as a flash drive brand, so I expect some problems. however, noticeably improves system boot and disk access speeds for older MacBook Pro laptops. Pros
  • Order an Alexa-enabled device; Just ask "Alexa, order a SanDisk microSD"
Cons
  • Questionable purchase for the elderly
