Great, but cables need cleaning before use. The cables were brand new, still sealed in their bag from the factory, but when I took them out of the bag they had greasy stains on them. My guess is that the cables are placed in some sort of mold and then epoxy is poured around the metal cables to create a plastic coating and the greasy residue is a "release agent" that is applied to the mold to help the Cables can detach from the mold. I'm not sure why those brand new cables had those greasy stains, but I can't think of any other brand new item that which I should have cleaned before I could use it; Nobody would put this cord in their briefcase/backpack or take it anywhere if it would stain shirts or other items in the bag. The good news is that cleaning the cables wasn't too difficult. I just used some paper towels to wipe off as much as possible first and then rubbed them down with a paper towel with some rubbing alcohol (70% isopropyl alcohol) on them and that got rid of any residue. So far the cables are working as expected. I attached the tab to the side of the computer and then attached the Kensington lock to it. The only surprise was that the video showed someone just opening the lock without using the key, it was too much pressure for me, so I just put the key in the lock, turned it, and was then able to easily slide the lock onto the bar (and then turn the key the other way to lock it). The other tab and lock are attached to the external hard drive. Another nice feature of the lock around the bar is that it can be rotated. When the lock on my computer is flat (parallel to the table) the cable blocks the DVD drive, but I can just grab and twist the lock and then the cable no longer blocks the DVD drive. So it does what I wanted, it serves as a deterrent to unprepared and undecided thieves. Also, it looks good and the black cable goes well with the black USB cables and the chrome lock also looks good (better than the tip of the cable, that goes into the lock that they didn't chrome plated). If I didn't have to waste time and materials on cleaning I would probably put 5 stars. Some people might think that grease shouldn't matter, but for me it does. I haven't bought anything new that I would need to clean before I could use it.
