Revainrating 5 out of 5

We expect fewer flies in the house.

When we grill or use a smoker, flies come onto the terrace in summer. When we have guests for a swim, the back door keeps opening and closing, giving those little bastards a way into my house. My underage children are the only non-rent paying toadies allowed to roam around here. So I was looking for a way to prevent uninvited guests. My choices seemed to be a penny in a water bag hanging over the door, a stink bag to lure them elsewhere, or an air curtain. My wife didn't like the water pouch as it seemed to have an "unassuming" look. So we used a more modern technology: we blew a lot of air at them to scare them away. Installation wasn't too bad, but I had to first install a piece of wood (used pressure treated decking) over my brick (one of the pictures tries to show this) as some of the bricks were tilted during installation for aesthetic considerations. The deck board gave me a flat but solid base to attach the curtain bracket to. Note: The bracket must be perfectly centered over the door as the pre-drilled mounting/retaining screw holes will not allow wiggle room when the blind is rotated left or right. However, if you didn't or couldn't make it perfect, you could drill your own holes in the mount where you need it. Additional note: I went into the brick with lead anchors, which I first applied some Gorilla glue to, and then TapCon type brick screws (after the glue had set) hex head screws so I didn't have to worry about possibly stripping the Phillips sockets . Chapter. The device rises to the top of the mounting bracket and is then held in place by the screws on the bottom. Connecting the magnet switch wires was pretty easy. You can glue them, use wire nuts or a wire clamp nipple I'm not sure what it's called which I used. I had to lift the door sensor to get a tight enough connection, but a quick cut of the remaining deluxe vinyl was perfect for this. Then I screwed it to the door and used the supplied door jam sensor adhesive. Works great. The only thing I wish for so far is that when the door is opened, the curtain goes up with full force faster than it actually is. The air speed reaches full power in 1-2 seconds. It could be precious seconds for Satan's spawn to invade my home. Remedy: Keep telling the children to open the door just a little bit until the fan is running full speed, and then go inside or outside. It works out? Of course not; They are my children and I am the dumbest person on the planet! Why should they listen to me? But that's what I do, and while I don't know if it's useful, it makes me feel better. Hopefully the air curtain will hold. It is outdoors but away from the elements due to our patio cover. No amount of rain can get there unless it's a rainstorm apocalypse. So far it seems to be working. For the money if it keeps the flies off during heavy traffic to/from the house it's worth every penny for a guy who can't stand it coming in the house. I'll try to post an update after a couple of BBQs with friends (when the curtain is most needed) to give more on the overall performance.
