Review on Microsoft LifeChat LX-3000 USB Headset (JUG-00013) by Mark Meyer

Revainrating 2 out of 5

If you're looking for microphone quality, this is Sennheiser's second best - and at a great price

Recently ordered 6 different headsets: Microsoft LX-6000, Microsoft LX-3000 (this one), Logitech H390E, Logitech The H650E, Sennheiser PC 36 and Sennheiser SC 660 USB CTRI have yet to get the SC 660 which are by far the most expensive pair but I can tell you that of the above I preferred the Sennheiser SC 36 for purely "As if you in the room would be" quality and LifeChat LX-6000 for noise reduction. However, the LX-3000 has the second best mic of the 5 headsets I tried above, as well as several gaming headsets I've used over the years (including Turtle Beach and Sony). This is one of the few where the shackle goes straight forward into your mouth, which is where it should be for best quality. She also has nice big headphones. , which can be useful if you're looking for some isolation from your listening environment. However, in terms of downsizing, the LX-6000 has some additional circuitry that isn't there. But this is due to the higher self-noise level, which audio engineers would call a high "noise floor", which is not present here. That said, when you're not talking, the LX-3000 is generally quieter than the LX-6000. The LX-6000 also has a significantly weaker microphone, which has limited bandwidth and makes you sound like you're talking on a decent-quality cellphone. The LX-3000 sounds like a microphone. It's more natural and relevant. With this headset, you can easily listen to tutorial videos, YouTube, podcasts and more without making fun of the sound quality. This is rare with headsets, which tend to have terrible mics. If you're looking for a step up, I'd go to the Sennheiser PC-36. Both male and female voices sound better when picked up through a microphone, and it's also a little easier to understand what people are saying about Sennheiser headphones. But at the time of writing this headset was half the price of Sennheiser and its quality was maybe 75-80%. Since it was so cheap I will keep this headset as a backup for my Sennheiser. . I think this is an amazing offer overall. Basically a cheap but very usable headset that doesn't make you sound bad or stupid. (Oh, and while I had access to a PC, I tested this perfectly on a Mac running OS X Mavericks.)

Pros
  • Sturdy construction
Cons
  • Slightly wrinkled
