Bought for my wife and with more available she doesn't need subtitles yet. I've read that the tone frequency can be tuned to those frequencies that the user can hear well, but this hasn't been done yet. I put the phone right in front of my wife's chair so she can answer quickly. When the phone rings it does so at the volume we use for the speaker so my wife can hear the phone ring if she has previously missed calls. In addition to ringing, the phone emits multiple bright beams of light into the ceiling. There is a slight echo due to the phone picking up speaker noise, but no one on either end of the line has ever complained about it. Imagine you are in Switzerland.
