Filters Last Long

This Fluval foam lasts a long time; Some of my Fluval foams are almost a year old and have not yet fallen apart. Foam is great for holding a colony of beneficial bacteria. I just flush with dechlorinated water every month or something. 4 blocks are required per canister. I keep extra on hand. If one falls apart, I replace it. But I leave them as long as possible because I don't want to ruin a driveable aquarium. This foam goes into a Fluval 406 external filter canister which I use solely for growing beneficial bacteria. This device ensures the health of 6 large fish thanks to a permanent zero ammonia and nitrite content. Lower shelf: Biofoam blocks. Sidebars is that product. I also use HOB Aqueon 06079 QuietFlow 55/75 Power Filter, 400 GPH for water purification. I like Aqueon best because it purifies the water, unbeatable! I insert pieces of 110" x 110" Morning Glory Queen/King Low Loft cotton (purchased from Walmart) into Aqueon and replace the cotton when it gets dirty at least once a week. This is cheaper than buying replacement Aqueon filters.
