They are awful and I know Fluval can do better because the foam blocks that came with the new filter were great. This is not the foam filter cartridge that Fluval shipped with the filter when I bought it new. It's MUCH more porous. I don't understand how he is supposed to catch and hold something. These replacement Fluval foam filter pads are made from significantly less dense foam than the foam that originally came with my filter. I'm not sure if that's good or bad. I am disappointed that they are different and neither the listing nor the packaging mentioned anything about it. I can see how these new pads improve filter flow and are less likely to clog (although clogs were never an issue for me with the original foam); but I'm worried that they don't filter.
