This is not a precise instrument. Only use it for rough estimates. It's good for what all the other 9 reviewers used it for, but it could be off by half an inch. Everything seems fine with my device, except that I'm getting mixed readings. If the measurements were at least consistent it wouldn't matter what the numbers were but I measured the same wall 6 times and got 6 different results. As said, if you're just hanging shelves or pictures and want them to be evenly spaced, or even want to find the center of the ceiling, this block will work as long as you don't mind it being slightly offset. . If you make the shelves yourself, use a tape measure.
