I am a safety officer by profession. I measured the sound level before and after installation. With Dynamite Extreme, the noise level dropped by 5 decibels. Some of the 1 star reviews complained that the noise level only dropped 5 decibels. The sound intensity doubles for every 3 decibel increase. So a 5 decibel reduction means you are actually significantly reducing the sound intensity with the Dynamat. Most of us perceive a sound as twice as loud as another if they differ by about 10 dB; For example, a 60dB air conditioner sounds twice as loud as a 50dB refrigerator. However, this 10 dB difference means a tenfold increase in intensity. A 70dB dishwasher sounds about four times louder than a 50dB fridge, but in terms of sound intensity, the sound it makes is 100 times stronger.
