Know before you sew!

This foot was purchased for a very specific task, making a tablecloth and bridal skirt. It would be difficult to describe all the features to understand this ruffle foot. If you are planning to use it there is a good video you can find so you can see where to insert the fabric so you can learn how to gather (if needed) and attach to another fabric at the same time and hence you MUST slow down sewing. speed or you will break the needles. Before sewing with the presser foot, you MUST check the needle alignment to make sure it doesn't hit the ruffle. The reason for the slowdown is so the skid plate can be pushed through the fabric and retracted before the needle comes back down to lock the crease. I practiced on several samples to get both the wrinkle size and wrinkle frequency to my satisfaction. I worked with nearly 30 yards of tulle applied to 6 yards of chiffon. It turned out beautiful, but very much like a cat fight. I'm sure that working on clothes will be much easier with excellent results. I'm very glad I had the opportunity to learn this tool and maybe find a place for its capabilities in one of my future patchwork or craft projects.
