Review on πŸŽ™οΈ Olympus LS-14 PCM Digital Voice Recorder: High-Quality Linear Recording by Jesus Gallagher

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Maybe stronger than I realize.

I've had the recorder for a few months now and I'm still learning a lot. Without prior experience with such a device, the maze of settings - sample rate, PCM or compression, limiter settings, bass rolloff settings, mid mic on or off, etc. - is a bit confusing, and each new attempt at recording starts with experimenting with the best combination these settings. The device was delivered with a multilingual quick start guide and no further operating instructions. At least until I discovered that the device itself actually comes with a PDF manual stored inside that can be accessed by using the USB cable that came with it, mounting the device as a drive on your computer, and browsing the provided folder. Musician-related features - metronome, overdub, and tuning - are underutilized add-ons for me. I already had the metronome and tuning when I picked up the instrument. I will most likely do overdubs and such on a computer, especially since I use a digital recording device. Do you understand what I'm getting at? The truth lies somewhere between my own inexperience and questionable user design. On the other hand, it does everything I've had to do so far. especially after taking advice from outside reviews to turn off the loud center mic for most of my applications.
