The driver asked me to install "Disable System Integrity Protection ". DO NOT BUY MAC

Mac support for this product is terrible. I see other reviews that look like some people have been able to get it to work, but it's not plug and play at all. Here's the experience I had before I gave up, came back and just bought another one. I connected it to my Macbook Pro and expected it to work right away, but it doesn't. I've tried multiple cables to see if it's the adapter, but it still didn't work. Then I went to the UGreen website and downloaded the drivers. Drivers are downloaded from Mediafire in .rar format. Macs don't natively support .rar so I had to find a separate program to unzip it and get the actual .dmg archive containing the driver. Opening the .dmg file and running the installer required access to my Downloads folder, which I initially refused. It failed so I tried again and gave him the permission he wanted. It failed again and said I need to disable System Integrity Protection. To disable this protection, you must turn off the computer and then turn it on again by holding down a key combination before changing some settings. At that moment I gave up. You know, disabling this protection would give the program root access to the entire computer. A program with this access can do many harmful things. I'm not saying this driver will or will do anything malicious, but it should be able to run without root access to protect consumers. This is due to a security vulnerability. There is no reason I should do any of the above steps to get the product working, let alone disable System Integrity Protection. I'm a computer scientist and have a lot of experience with file formats, networks and bios post-processing, but this is going too far. System (Very suspicious and unnecessary). No consumer should be asked to disable System Integrity Protection to get a USB peripheral working.

Pros
  • Compact and Portable: The USB to LAN converter is quite compact, 2.36 x 0.93 x 0.62 smaller than your hand. Save space when using and carry it when traveling.
Cons
  • Legacy model
