This is a compact scrub that works as expected. I say "compact" because its grip length is shorter than anything I've seen before, but it's also thicker, making it a comfortable grip for any hand size I can think of. We did two tests. I just used the bulk of the peeler, placed it on top of the carrots, and then ran the peeler over the carrots with no added pressure. As a result, the carrot's skin was completely removed, but very little "meat" was removed. Encouraged, I tried to peel the whole melon - like a melon. Everything went remarkably smoothly. Again, I removed the rind but didn't lose much of the edible melon. A blunt bow hung from the side of the peeler. Supposedly this is to fight (sting) potato eyes. The hinge isn't sharpened on either side, so I believe that hinge is useless, at least in this house. We both see it as the definitive keeper. It works as advertised except for the eye loop.
