Mio MiVue 798 I had high hopes for this DVR as I am familiar with the Mio brand. It is quite suitable as a DVR for recording incidents and parking. The app is easy to download on Android but requires a lot of permissions. If you only want to receive videos and not see incoming calls on the dash cam, you don't have to give permission for call logs etc. I was also a bit disappointed with the app. I downloaded some emergency videos taken by the Boeing 798 while using the wipers and was able to see a pretty good video. I wanted to raise the license plate but that's not an option. It's very simple and a bit cumbersome. It's probably easier to interact directly with the DVR. I could not find any normal videos or parking videos in the app. Might be an option but I find this dashcam quite frustrating without going into the advanced menus. I don't really like the mounting system or the cables. The camera needs to be on the driver's side of the car to interact with the controls, but the power cord is turned the wrong way. Also, the 00s called and want their USB Mini-B back. The power adapter occupies the entire cigarette lighter adapter. So if you want to charge your phone, you'll have to do it somewhere else. There are no tools or devices to hide the wire around the windshield. That's probably better since the screen seems to turn on by itself all the time and is sure to draw the attention of someone walking by with a screwdriver and a hoodie. I was particularly interested in driving safety aids and a different kind of "ever higher". Things this DVR promises. I'm mostly disappointed. The driver alerts are only based on a timer which seems to come up even though I've only been driving for 15 minutes. I think the timer should start when power is applied and the power is always on in my Nissan. The lane warnings are nice and work well but got so annoying that I turned them off after hearing a random beep for 4 hours on a long freeway drive this weekend. The warning that the car in front of you has pulled away from a traffic light is good, but it often goes off after I've already started driving. And the trunk lock alarm is another one I had to turn off because people stop in front of you to turn it off all the time. While they look good on paper, these driving safety features are pretty much useless. I liked the GPS based speedometer and wish it could be made bigger or offer speed warnings when they relate to actual speed limits on the roads. Google does it on maps but that's a lot of data I think. I haven't found a use for speed camera alerts as I don't think my part of the country has them. I've manually entered a camera alarm in a location where the local sheriff likes to hide behind a billboard and the alarm works well enough. It was also very easy to create with a click of a button. Since Mio dedicated a button for speed cameras, I believe that's the main selling point for this dashcam and I'm not their target. I've been reviewing quite a few DVRs over the last few weeks and I have a feeling Mio is the only one calling them. one. It has decent visuals, but the physical layout, menu design, and editing seem to be based on designs from 20 years ago.
