I used to use plastic zippered bags, but these are the best holdalls.
I mostly travel with hand luggage under the seat, so organization is key. I attached a small Pack-It with small carabiners to the outside of my bag/backpack under the seat, which doesn't have external pockets for travel documents and a smartphone. It works like it was made for a bag. Large pouches are great for medicine, contact lenses, headphones, pens, snacks, keys, etc.
