Review on πŸ“· Kasa Smart 2K Security Camera for Baby Monitor: HD Indoor Camera with Motion Detection, Two-Way Audio, Night Vision, Cloud & SD Card Storage – Works with Alexa & Google Home (KC400) by Josh Cooper

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Easy to use and higher resolution than most other cameras and baby monitors

This was done to upgrade my existing D-Link 720p camera which was mostly fine but had poor night vision which is important for use as a baby monitor. I installed it vertically above the crib and to cover half of the bed where the baby is on his dock during the day. The field of view was large enough to cover everything. It comes with all the necessary accessories to install it - screws, a mounting rail, a long micro-USB cable (I wish it was the newer USB-C, but it isn't). In general, unpacking and installing took no more than 30 minutes. The app was very user-friendly, but note that it only supports the older 2.4GHz band. So make sure your router (especially the newer AX/WiFi-6) still supports this signal. If you have an old router you should be fine. I've attached a screenshot of the entire settings menu as it gives you an idea of what you can tweak/configure. Pros: 1. High resolution (double the usual 1080p - Full HD - makes a BIG difference when upscaling)2. Decent night vision - black and white (which is the norm) and everything is clearly visible3. Decent two-way audio and microphone sensitivity4. An easy-to-use application should also be easy for non-technical people5. Easy linking with Alexa and Google so I can browse my Google Hub/Alexa6 screens. Fast loading time (D-Link took much longer to load) the area accurate in some form (see photo to see what I mean) Cons **: ** I will write about all this to TP-Link support - and when they solve it - i will update the review 1. SD card either 24/7 continuously or not which will wear out your card very quickly - most cameras can only record when there is motion (even my 2-3 yrs old D-Link 720p camera) 2. Baby cry detection also works on my wife talks to me (unless you want to say it sounds like a baby crying - don't believe it's true or she will love it - LOL) 3. No option to take a photo or video in the app when your baby cries something - something cute. This is a feature that I already miss et in D-Link. The only workaround is to zoom in and take a screenshot, but it's just not the same and it's really inconvenient to record a video that way (screen capture feature)4. Many features are not available (see cons above) unless you pay at least $3/month. The first month is free, but still. The ability to record clips/take photos must be allowed in the app, as many manufacturers do, including D-Link and Wyze. (see screenshot) Conclusion: I did a lot of research before buying and to be honest there aren't many high-resolution cameras out there these days. This feature alone makes this camera outstanding in my opinion and overcomes all other shortcomings. Being able to zoom in on my peacefully sleeping baby and take a photo (screenshot) with all the details is priceless. It's this superb resolution that makes Cheat #3 particularly painful.
