Review on πŸ”₯ IKTCH 30 Inch Under Cabinet Range Hood: Powerful 900-CFM Ventilation with Gesture Sensing Control Panel & Stainless Steel Design by Dave Johnson

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Wanted to love it, it's not bad, problems can be avoided in abundance

I've looked at dozens of hoods and spent hours choosing mine. The top priorities for me were a) high airspeed, b) bright, adjustable lighting, c) strong and durable construction, d) good price. I've seen this unit at 900 CFM and under $400 and am hooked even though I haven't heard of the iKTCH. Good news: A) The 4 speed motors do a pretty good job (not as good as I expected, but good). B) The build quality and finish of the device was good. C) Cleanable mesh filters fit well and are practical. Bad news: A) There are many errors in the manual and product description. B) This device has a "Gesture Control" feature that allows you to move your hand to change the fan settings. It's okay but I'm tall and my head spins around the lights and fans just standing by the stove. THERE IS NO WAY TO TURN OFF GESTURE CONTROLS! What a pity. I have to tape the sensors so they don't turn on and off every time I reach for something or get too close. C) The device comes with a remote control that is not in the instructions. Working with the remote control seems silly and unnecessary. D) The project description states that either a round 6 inch fan or a rectangular vertical fan can be installed in this device. This is misleading. 6" round flexible duct. E) The instructions on page 2 says the dampener is "not included" and is not recommended due to noise. That's not correct. The unit I bought has at the connection point built in a folding damper. F) The instructions are translated funny. If you asked me I would fix it for you free of charge. The operation section on page 12 is very confusing and totally useless. The safety chapter says that the accumulation of greasy residue in the fans and in the filters can "cause increased flammability". Hm, no, quite the opposite. G) This thing needs to be run at speed 3 or 4 to really remove the smoke and it's pretty noisy at that speed. For some silly reason when I read the specs and saw up to 900 CFM and 28-64dB of sound I think I believed it, sure, but even if it's correct, 64dB is pretty h loud. I installed a 600cfm fan in a previous house and it did a better job of removing the smoke than this one. All in all you get what you pay for. If you are looking for a 3 star range hood that is very affordable and works well then this is the unit for you. I was hoping it would be a really high quality game. It is not.

Pros
  • Great for a small home
Cons
  • Questionable purchase for the elderly
