The budgie was unsure at first, but now he likes it.

I have tried many times to take a photo or video of my budgie on the swing but he always jumps off before I get there. At first he wasn't a fan, but now he's sitting on the swing to relax. Or, if he's really energetic, he'll turn around in the grove and swing the swing from side to side. Plastic rings on chains are also pleasant to the touch. He takes one - almost always blue - and pulls it up and down. She has been in his cage for about a year and a half and so far there have been no longevity issues.
