I bought it for my mother-in-law who was beginning to have vision problems. She can't see the tiny numbers on my digital candy thermometer, and I don't know anyone who can read a traditional mercury thermometer correctly. The display on this one has large numbers so it's easy to read, but it's not so big that it wouldn't be practical to keep in the kitchen. Since it has magnets on the back, I can even attach it to the fridge or oven door without it getting in the way. The probe itself is small so it doesn't do much damage to my flesh. It's very fast. I can get a reading in a few seconds.
