They keep what they promise and are worth it.

They keep what they promise and are inexpensive. So far I've only washed the linens, but they're just as soft as they tumble dry, if not softer. My husband has sensitive skin so we already use fragrance and dye free products. I was looking for an alternative to the dryer sheet and tried 2 different brands of these spiked plastic dryer balls. I can't say the plastic ones do anything to prevent static or add softness. These balls of yarn do the trick: softness + no static electricity. They also seem to help collect extra posts and hair. Haven't tried them with traditional wrinkle prone fabrics yet but will try to update when I do. I haven't tried any other brands of wool dryer balls and can't tell if they are worse or better than other wool balls but I would definitely recommend them to friends and family.

Pros
  • Reduces the adhesion of lint or static electricity. Wool dryer balls are well-felted and create less friction on the fibers of the laundry, resulting in less static electricity and a softer laundry. 3 to 4 balls for normal loads and 6 or more balls for heavy loads. Don't over dry and become stress free from static electricity.
Cons
  • No performance
