my new EQ6-R. I'm not a fan of hand controls and wanted a cable to bypass mine. It looked just right and the price was right. It arrived, I successfully installed the FTDI drivers (a bit startled because it only has 3 pins connected, but it's actually correct), plugged it into my mount, found the correct COM port and booted the Stellarium Scope. but no connection. I've tried shortening my USB extension cords, thinking that the ones I'm using might be too long (although the cord itself is short and I had no problem plugging it in a bit longer), but it still hasn't helped. not connect. I tried different ASCOM programs like PHD2 and AstroTortilla but EQMOD just wouldn't connect. The next day I brought my laptop to the roof and tried to connect the computer directly to the cable but nothing worked on either mount. Even if it worked, it wouldn't work for me. All other FTDI USB RJ45 cables (Shoestring, Xagyl and Lynx) are around $45 - it would be nice if they worked, but then again: with an FTDI chipset that costs around $15 initially, how can you do that? is this one that cheap? When it seems too good to be true.
