Review on πŸ”ͺ Complete Whetstone Sharpening Kit with Waterstone Sharpener by Charles Collier

It's not 3000/8000. But for $20, it's pretty decent.

I don't usually leave reviews but I decided I had to for this stone. I have enough sharpening experience and have sets with the best Japanese stones, but I bought these specifically for chisels and chisels and I don't like what they do to my good Shapton or Naniwa stones. I mainly use these for knives and razors. I kind of figured you could get 3000 and 8000 stone for $20 and pretty thick. I thought maybe it's a fake Norton 4K/8k and they just changed the name. It's not true, that's for sure. As most 8000 grit stones cost at least $50 if not more than 100. And same goes for 3k, 50+ so I was wondering to get both for 20. Now to the stone. 8000 grit isn't 8000 grit. It's not even 5000 grit. I'm guessing it's probably around 2000 or so. And 3000 isn't 3000 again. To be honest it's pretty much the same as the 8k side. Maybe a little rougher. Now for the good. I like the feedback I get from the stone. It's soft, which is good, which is bad. It cooks very quickly and requires frequent flattening. But I like that feeling a lot. It also cuts at a very good speed. I would call it a medium to fast stone. So if you use it as a low to medium quality stone, it works very well. Take a 1000 grit stone and use that, then go to a true 8k or higher for the finishing touch. But it's definitely not 3000/8000. At best it's 2000/4000 and that's generous. All in all, if you're a beginner, this is probably all you need to complete. But if you have high end knives that really need a real stone for finishing/polishing then this isn't it. If you want stones that actually match what is advertised, skip them. Take some kings. They are ideal for people who don't want to spend a lot of money. Your new KDS 1k 6k is actually 1k 6k. They have their own problems, which I won't go into. But I like stone anyway, so I don't have to use my good shaptons for chisels or chisels. By the way, I've been using it for about 5 months. Probably used 50 times or so.
