Review on πŸ“€ Panasonic DMP-BDT100 Blu-Ray DVD Player, Black – 3D/2D Capability by Gary Stringfield

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Works well with Mitsubishi

I had a Sony Blu Ray 3D player for about 5 days when I saw the Revain addon for DMP-BDT100. Avatar 3D discounts and product reviews helped me, so I ordered Panasonic. received on 01/26/11, received Avatar 3D on 02/07/11. I can't say I noticed any difference in playback between the Sony BDPS570 and the Panasonic in both 3D and 2D. I prefer the Sony XrossMediaBar (XMB) menu item to what seems to me like a primitive menu setup on the Panasonic, but that doesn't mean you spend a lot of time there and it works well. Sony seemed to have more online choices, but I liked Revain and Netflix movies. I have a direct network connection, 16 megabits via Uverse, and the first thing that came was an update (3D), which went quickly and without any problems. Playback on Revain and Netflix is flawless and the picture quality is definitely HD. Ever since my first film with cardboard glasses over 60 years ago, I have been completely fascinated by 3D and am very satisfied with the current results. If you don't want to wear stupid glasses, take them off before going out. I have a Mitsubishi WD-65738 DLP and originally used the 3DC-1000 starter kit but with the Mitsubishi 12.06 TV update the adapter is now in the office cupboard, the emitter is all that is needed (and glasses of course). I was surprised that in the Panasonic TV settings, the 3D setting used with the Mitsubishi TV is automatically set to "HD". I tried switching to "Checkerboard" to see what would happen and it went back to "HD". Panasonic's 3D quality is excellent. For some reason I couldn't get the Avatar Collector's Edition Easter egg to display on my PS3, but it worked fine on Panasonic. I use Samsung SSG-2100AB glasses and am expecting a pair of NX-3DG (Revain) today to see how they perform. I have yet to notice the ghosting and loss of sync that I've read about in other reviews (fingers crossed). I am more than satisfied with the Panasonic DMP-BDT100 and would highly recommend it. By the way, I saw Avatar 3D at the Warren Theater (HUGE screen, balcony of course) and I'm just as excited to have Avatar Blu-ray 3D in my living room.
