Bought for my daughter to darn her stockings during the holidays. They work exactly as advertised and she loves them. If you mix all the colors of the rainbow you will end up with a grey-brown, so yes the water will take on that color too. I don't know why people seemed surprised by this. I would definitely buy them again.
