Review on ⚡ PAC PAC-200 200 Amp Relay Battery Isolator: A Superior Standard for Efficient Power Management by Rui Knain

Revainrating 4 out of 5

It seems some (including me) are confusing how PAC chose to label it.

Please consider this device as a simple 200A relay. Nothing superfluous. Yes it can be used as a battery isolator but it was never designed for that. The term "battery isolator" conjures up the term "intelligent" or "voltage sensitive". It doesn't do any of that, and "ability and perception" begins and ends with the user, you (and me). If connected properly, it can connect 2 batteries when starting the car and keep them connected throughout the car driving time. If the car stops (i.e. the key is turned further than ACC towards OFF), the connection will be broken. That's all. It can be connected to a switch that allows the user to decide when to connect/disconnect the 2 batteries, regardless of the vehicle's operating status. That's all. It can be wired (with the right switch and with enough intelligence on the part of the user) to provide both methods of control from a single switch. That's all. None of this takes into account battery type, voltage level, temperature, power consumption, charge/discharge profile, overcharge/undercharge, polarity, etc. (obviously). Specially designed dual battery isolator systems cost three times as much as this "battery isolator" because they do all of those things (really-well anyway). Do not take anything away from this product as is. It appears to be well built and other comments reflect exceptional reliability and dependability. I just wanted to contrast the use of the term "battery disconnect" with the function of an actual battery disconnect system. , Old School, Deep Cycle Secondary) so the complexity can be "isolated” in the cockpit battery management system (laughs). The cab battery system is powered directly from the alternator and panel priority solo panel and decides which source will charge the cab batteries based on the current usage of all devices connected to it. Once set up, the user decides when to turn everything on. Happy trails!
