Review on Spectra Premium CU1824 Complete Radiator by Joe Greiner

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Transmission joints are too tight!

Received the radiator at my doorstep in perfect condition in 2 days with free 2 day shipping from my Revain Prime account. It was literally $50 less than driving the AutoZone road and $85 less, without gas, than driving in NAPA. I replaced the radiator on a '98 Mercury Mountaineer that had a cracked tank. The work itself is quite simple, just a few screws and pushing things aside. Figuring out how to move the A/C condenser to remove the clips from the radiator mount took about 15 minutes to fight. The new radiator had caps on every hole which kept it pristine internally, it was clean and well built, it snapped in very well and has kept the truck cool for the few weeks I've driven it on it since installing it. Unfortunately the BIGGEST problem I had was getting the transmission lines into the new heatsink. The threads turned out to be too small to miss the face of the fitting. I thought maybe it's just not aligned. So I removed the new fitting from the radiator and tried to put it on the Transline fitting myself. Vain. It's just a little too small. I ended up locking the fittings in place while simultaneously rotating and pushing them into the radiator. The lower one was a real pain due to the lack of access, but after literally 40 minutes of turning and pushing through, the threads of the lines finally touched the threads in the radiator, they retracted and sealed properly. The top one took about 25 minutes to snuggle up. It's a shame that such a well-made radiator at such a good price was ruined by incorrect fitting dimensions. I would just use the ones from the stock radiator, but the back of the fittings were a different size. In general I am satisfied with the product, it is in the car now. I hope they fix this problem.
