The food saver function works but I use it for sous vide cooking and I wish the instructions were more detailed on how to get a full seal. I ruined a few cuts of meat in the beginning because the bag opened up in the sous vide water bath. Every piece of meat that is not frozen releases some juice when vacuuming. Some of these juices remain in the bag and compromise the integrity of the seal once the vacuum is complete and the heat seal begins. To prevent this, I stop sucking and start sealing when I see the juice being sucked out and reaching the top of the bag. Then I take the bag out of the machine and wipe the inside of the bag over the seam with a paper towel. Then I seal it again without using a vacuum. I haven't had a break in the water bath since I started doing the double seal. I hope this keeps you from messing things up like I did.
