Review on πŸͺ’ DOVO Straight Razor: The Ultimate Shave Companion by Amanda Lemons

Revainrating 1 out of 5

This is a good blade for beginners

This item arrived on time and was exactly what I expected. This razor was brand new in its original packaging and was ready to shave from that moment. (Although there is some debate as to how ready it is to shave) Plastic scale (handle) with a glossy finish. blade is good; There is a Dovo logo on one side and nothing on the other. We live in a time where we throw away a lot of things. It's gotten so easy. Something wears out and isn't as good as it was, what to do? Throw it away; get a new and better one. This happens all the time with the cheap razors you see in local stores. They are even called "disposable". Then you have expensive brands that sell you something that looks cool and works, but then you end up having to replace the blade. You throw away the head and have to buy a pack of these heads for more than you paid for the body and the original head. So life is. Buy cheap blades or buy a nicer one and spend an arm and a leg on new blades every year to make sure you look respectable and show others that you can take care of yourself. That's when I started having problems. I felt bad for throwing away so many things and I felt bad for having less money in my pocket. I had an electric razor and it does the job, but I've looked through a few of them. I thought it would last a long time but eventually broke. Either something physical breaks on it, or after a while it won't hold a charge. My last one that I had to keep against the wall all the time. I'm tired of spending more money just to get my hair out of my face. I started looking at Staright razors. Despite little maintenance to keep the blade sharp, straight razors last a very long time if you know what you're doing. Of course, quality razors are more expensive than a regular razor that needs to be replaced, but over time you have to spend more money to replace these heads. A dangerous razor is bought at once. It's practically a guarantee that you'll spend less in the long run if you choose one of them. So I bought this. After a month of use (I use it about once a week) I can say that this blade is still sharp with proper care. There's a little plus here for me: straight razors are iconic for this new way of shaving. Not everyone today knows how to shave with a razor. Life has gotten faster. People don't have time. But I say take your time. There's something cool about shaving with a razor for me. An open blade without a guard and you'll shave your face and neck with it?! Believe it or not, this can be one of the best ways to shave. I don't remember such a shave without an ingrown hair. I have never had an ingrown hair with this thing. If you want to take the next step and switch to a straight razor for shaving, this is a good blade for beginners. Update: 5/19/17 I bought some sharpening stones. in the past to keep the edge sharp. Anyone who uses a straight razor should be aware that after a period of shaving, the blade will lose sharpness and will need to be re-sharpened. Let me clarify that I did some research before making these other purchases. Not only by products and brands, but also by grinding technology. There is a lot of information out there to show you do's and don'ts when sharpening a straight razor. It's not hard science, but it does require some patience, a steady hand (which I hope you have if you're thinking of buying one of these), and the right materials. After sharpening I noticed the blade cuts smoother than I remember when I started. (Although maybe that's because I was still learning) I'm still happy with this razor a year later. My advice to anyone looking to grab one of these is to look for information on general razor care. Even if you know you're not going to sharpen it yourself. At least you know the process. And if you ask someone to sharpen it for you, check out someone who's sharpened razors before (if you don't know anyone) TL; DR: Great blade. Save money in the long run. But you have to learn how to sharpen it. Or hire someone else to do it.
