We've tried other pads in the past, many with hard shells, but the flexible Xmatter Knee Pads in these were a revelation! I honestly almost forgot that I wear them all day, even on climbs, and often even put them on before leaving the house just to save time at the beginning of the trail. It's only when the temperature crosses the 80°F mark that heat retention becomes an issue, but seriously, what doesn't? The direct hit protection works great although I did cut my shins once as they don't reach full sleeve but I knew what was going on. I ride them on my trail bike and my BMX, so they've tackled a wide range of surfaces from gravel to pavement to concrete all season with no visible signs of wear. The elastic and handles hold up well and the placement of the velcro below the knee is brilliant in my opinion. Sizing follows recommended advice - I have a 48cm hips and size XL fits like a glove. Purchase other iXS hardware based on my experience with this one!
