Review on Sony DNE509 ATRAC3PLUS CD Walkman by Anthony Rael

Revainrating 4 out of 5

A very good player, but prepare an electron microscope.

As many say, this is a very good CD/MP3 walkman. Pros + Very strong and reliable in a small package. + The battery life is amazing. I use NiMH rechargeable batteries and they last for several days. + Very nice full sound. + If you press the stop button, it will turn off after 10 seconds. When you turn the device back on, it remembers where you left off, even in the middle of a recording. I really like this feature as I listen to a lot of recorded messages. + It's Sony! You are always great. + It WILL play MP3Pro files and they sound great even though it doesn't necessarily support MP3Pro. Cons - The display is ridiculously small. I don't know what Sony thinks about it. If you want a similar Sony CD player with a very good display, try the Sony Psyc® ATRAC® CD Walkman® D-NF400PSGRAY (see Sony website). I wish I had known that before buying. - By default it beeps every time the button is pressed and it beeps constantly when stopped. However, this can easily be disabled as instructed in the instructions. - EXTREMELY slow FF and RW functions. This is annoying when you want to jump forward or back in extended notation. Another observation I haven't tried the SonicStage software due to the very negative reviews here. I use MusicMatch Jukebox Plus and encode all 96kHz MP3Pros with great success. In general I am very happy with this player. Yes, you need an electron microscope to read the display, but otherwise it's great.
