Although the UL side of the plug says "Rainproof", the other sides state that the plug must be in a sealed, weatherproof outlet. To be on the safe side, these small light bulbs are threaded inside. The length is enough for our 6ft tree. I've found that playing with the remote is more beneficial than trying to follow directions. Please see the photo of the built-in controller that will help with the remote control. What I like the most is the dimming/brightness. With our old flashlights you couldn't see them during the day but they will be bright enough and at night when it's dark you can dim them so it doesn't look like you're trying to land a plane.
