Review on RUFFWEAR Front Range Dog Leash With 5 Foot Lead And Padded Handle For Comfortable Everyday Walking In Aurora Teal by Heather Jordan

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Flimsy leash and cumbersome locking mechanism

I was looking forward to this leash being updated and I ordered it from Ruffwear the first day it was available. I'm beginning to regret my haste. The two things I associate with Ruffwear products are quality materials and thoughtful design, but both are lacking in this updated leash. The new locking mechanism is cumbersome and not user friendly. It's still entirely possible to use the leash without the lock being engaged, which seems dangerous considering the March 2021 recall. And if I have anyone else walk my dog I need to give them a lesson on how to use it, and then hope they don't forget to engage it. I was expecting a redesign of the Crux clip, but this solution seems like a MacGyver Band-Aid.The leash itself is surprisingly flimsy and feels cheap for Ruffwear. The material is so thin that it stretches when my puppy pulls, causing the traffic loop to close tightly. Of course this is when I would most like to use the traffic handle to get her under control, but I need to wait until there's slack in the leash so I can get my fingers into it.I have none of these problems with my Ruffwear Roamer leash, but I wanted a shorter everyday leash that would match my Front Range collar and harness. It looks like I'm going to need to start looking at other brands.

Pros
  • I like the secure attachment to the collar. The color is pretty and the handle has a soft lining inside.
Cons
  • The clip may be difficult to open and close, causing frustration for pet owners.
