Revainrating 3 out of 5

Very bright but 1 out of 4 died within 5 minutes of being turned on

I bought 2 sets of these lights for my CJ7 to replace the 20 year old halogen bulbs on the bumper and windshield frame. Brightness: Excellent Editing: Poor but manageable. I've added star washers and a rubber washer as shown in one of the pictures as you cannot tighten the included hardware enough to direct the light - bumps and wind will remove them. Quality - I tested all 4 for about 2 minutes. each time I took them out of the box. After many hours of working with the new yellow stripe wiring, I added 2 relays to my yellow stripe setup so that they were connected to the turn signals when off. Once completed everything worked as planned and the lights are very bright, not sure over 15,000 lumens but certainly enough to illuminate the sides of the trail. After about 5 minutes of operation, one of the lamps has completely stopped working - there is no yellow bar, now the lamp is on. I checked the circuit on the light and power and ground are fine, the light just doesn't work! I don't think 3 out of 4 are bad but I have soldered/shrunk all the connections and the one I need to replace is on the windshield frame which means the windshield frame is tipping forward which means the top has to be removed again. Are you Chinese, can't test anything? or maybe get it right at the beginning? I think it's my own fault for not buying an American product! when multiple tests are run. Using a desktop power supply, I ran the lamps at 11.9 volts to simulate the worst case scenario. The ambient temp was 95F and the light was pointing straight down, which has to be worst case scenario for a heatsink. Both new lights worked for a full hour without incident. Current consumption for the main light source is 2.1 A, for yellow light - 0.32. Amp. The heatsink stabilized at 170 F in about 15 minutes with only the main lamp on. When both lights were on, the highest temperature was 177 F. With the spot light and yellow light on at about 170 F, the current on the main light drops about 0.2 amps to 1.9 and the yellow light drops to about 0 .31 amps. I plan on using these lights until there are no more crashes as I now have an extra 3 hours per project. I like the design of the lanterns. They're small and bright, and the amber bulb draws attention to my turn signals.

Pros
  • 5 light modes
Cons
  • Legacy model
