A useful weapon to use against hard water deposits in toilets

I was happy to find these. I moved into my house a little over 3 years ago. My house uses well water and that seems to have led to more hard water deposits in my toilet bowls than what I had experienced with municipal water.Admittedly I haven't been particularly good about toilet bowl cleaning. So I've found I've let the lack of more regular bowl cleaning lead to hard water deposits that have taken considerable elbow grease to remove. When I moved in I found an abrasive cloth behind one of the bowls. It was already well worn and subsequent use wore away even more of the abrasive material on the "cloth". It got to where I was trying to find spots of abrasive left.I thought what I'd been using was "plumber's cloth". But all the "plumber's cloth" I found were on rolls that were 1 1/2" wide. And they were offered in varying grits. None of them were of the size "cloth" I'd been using. Then finally, almost accidentally, I found this product and it turns out to be what my well worn piece had been. So, haven't actually used this purchased product yet but I'm confident it's what I had been using, only with grit actually still attached to it's surface.I'm reluctant to use harsh chemicals since I have a septic system. Using these abrasive "cloths" lessens my dependency on chemicals to remove the hard water build up that I let accumulate. They are effective though admittedly require a certain amount of effort to remove the deposits. And like I've already stated I contribute to the problem by allowing the deposits to become a bigger problem than they need to be. My subsequent efforts are my penance for my lackluster toilet bowl maintenance. It's a little funny. Handling the new "cloths" they feel far more stiff and abrasive than the one single one I've been trying to continue to use after years of scouring with it.So I'm pleased to find a replacement for that sorry old one I've been trying to get use from. Hopefully with better bowl preventative care and cloths with greater amounts of grit on them I'll have less problems going forward.

Pros
  • Requires elbow grease but works well.
Cons
  • The cleaning screen may not be washable or reusable in some cases
