I used these clips to hang Christmas lights on balcony railings. The top of the railing is a 2" square and the clips will fit if you first stretch them and then press down with some pressure until you feel they snap securely into place. My first try sometimes didn't work, but even force stretched the clip so the next try was usually successful. It would be nice if they walked more easily, but one day they'll be pretty safe. The hook holding the lighting can hold multiple strands. The photo shows him holding three; you could get a fourth there. I used to use zip ties to hang lights, but this is much easier and gives a cleaner result.
