Review on ๐Ÿ  Tetra Whisper IQ Power Filter with Advanced Quiet Technology for Aquariums by Laura Mason

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Quiet and reliable function, moves a lot of water.

I have had several Whisper brand inline filters as well as Rena external line filters over the years and this is a review of the 60 gallon Whisper IQ. I actually have this 60 gallon block on a 75- Gallon tank mounted. From experience I think you can use a slightly smaller filter and still get quality water treatment with Whisper brand filters and with these types of 'hanging' tank filters you take up a lot of tank wall space and can go down a bit. With my 75 I have a few feet of back wall space, but the 60g still takes up quite a bit of back wall width. I really like the modular cartridge system. You can use the activated charcoal included in Whisper or your own carrier to fill disposable bags, I often switch between activated charcoal and zeolite. The 60 gallon model uses two filter bags. Whisper sells in bulk, I buy 12 packs of bags/carriers at a reasonable price. The 75-gallon tank that houses this filter is home to a wide variety of fishโ€”mainly tetras, gourami, guppiesโ€”as well as live plants. The fish are fed once a day. The filter does its job every day. It is not powerful enough to immediately suck up all the flake food placed in the aquarium and yet none of the small fish (guppies) will be injured or trapped by the inlet pressure. However, this filter works around the clock, moving and circulating large volumes of water, helping (along with bio-preparations) to maintain crystal clear water. Mechanical/engine noise levels are minimal. The pleasant sound of falling/flowing water is more noticeable than anything mechanical. The top of the filter is easily accessible through the removable top panel. Filter bags are easy to inspect and replace. The impeller never jams and the inlet grille prevents large debris from damaging the impeller assembly. The top plate fits well and as far as I can tell there is no noticeable water loss from condensation that occurs as part of the filtration cycle. Happy with the purchase and would buy again or another model from the same manufacturer at any time. .
