When I bought this mount my only concern was that it would hold my iPhone 6 Plus without having to remove the phone from the case. I'm happy to say that it has some free space, but not much. It has a nice firm feel with strong springs supporting the clamp. One thing I noticed when I got my hands on it was that there are rubber pads in the clamp that make contact with the phone. These rubber pads have a groove on the inside that holds the phone a little more securely, which is nice. Thanks to the strength of the springs and grooves in the rubber pads, the phone is very reliable. It has no movement at all. You can shake it pretty hard and your phone probably won't move.
