Sooner or later CR-V owners will need it

This is a weak link in Honda's lock design, and it seems to fail with alarming regularity. The original block in my 2001 CR-V has been stuck for a long time and makes a lot of painful noises from time to time. He recently froze the entire castle assembly; which was too big a security risk to ignore. It took me several hours to swap out the device myself, but with all the instructions circulating around the web, it's definitely a doable project with some basic hand tools. The biggest problem was getting the screws back in during assembly - I had to tape one of the screws to the tip of the screwdriver to keep it from falling off before hitting the target as I didn't have a magnetised screwdriver which would be very handy for this species of work.

Pros
  • Just like everyone still does
Cons
  • Too long to wait
