Review on Enhance Suspension Performance with Moog K8659 Strut Rod Bushing by Tim Knoepfle

Avoid this poor quality product!

All mechanics know that Moog is practically the best chassis brand. I have been using their products for many years. 1989-1997 Thunderbirds and Cougars are known to have problems with their strut bushings. Using these PLASTIC bushings is NOT the way to solve the problem! I carefully installed them on my 1993 LX show car. I even removed the metal washers from the stock front rubber bushings to give these plastic bushings a flat mounting surface (the hole has a rounded edge). The first thing I noticed after installation was excessive, violent steering column vibration. After 800 miles the driver's side rear hub actually cracked and fell out while driving! Luckily I was only 3 miles from home and was able to hobble to my car. I want to sue MOOG for making such a poor quality product! I should have heeded the warnings online about this, especially from "TCCOA.com", a site that every owner of these cars must visit! The ONLY solution for stock Ford bushings are Ford OEM parts which are still available separately. You must reuse the original crush sleeve as it is no longer manufactured. After installing new Ford rubbers on both ends of the bars, the smooth and soft feel was restored. Incidentally, the double rubber insulated stanchions were an asset to this model when it was new.
