Hand or wrist problems? This is useful.

After answering the question "Are they rusting?" I know that I can tell you everything else. Here's my answer to that question: "The best little scissors. My first pair was given to me for work in the mid 1980's. Permanently marked with my name on the handles and I managed not to lose them until about 2000. I'm so glad I finally found her online. I carry mine in the front pocket of my tool belt along with a small Felco sharpener. Every now and then I "top up the rim" and to clean the vegetable juice I use WD40 or machine oil. and a small piece of steel wool. The trick is not to lose them. :) "Also for those of you who have hardness or wrist issues but still want to work in the garden, it's all about the right tool for the job. My arthritis and carpal tunnel have made me rethink the way I do things and these little scissors are one of my most used items. The handle is soft and gives slightly so they don't crunch when the cut is complete. Oh, there are still good days and bad days, but other similar tools can end up hurting. I am in pain and it will take me a week or more to recover. I also use them regularly to pull weeds while I'm gardening. Grasp the weed by the base with one hand, then insert the tip of the ARS scissors into the soil at the base of the weed while gently pulling on the weed. Use the scissors to lift it from underneath, which will hopefully be the root and will gather the weeds. As experienced gardeners know, frequent and regular weeding gives us manageable weeds that make excellent compost. Not having to look for a weeding tool when I see a need has really helped me stay on track. I keep these shears and a good pair of Felco shears in my tool belt (look for lighter weight men's tool belts, not gardening aprons). anytime, along with what's in season, and the older I get the better at things I get. I hope this helps others adjust to growing up and continue to love their gardens.
