Review on Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX100 II camera, black by Vinay Upadia ᠌

Well done, but I won't buy any more.

This, of course, is my nit-picking, they can be found in any device. After all, nothing is perfect. And if you take the device as a whole, it’s not bad, not a masterpiece, of course, but on a trip it can replace a photo and video camera for home viewing. At the same time, it is compact and the swivel screen is quite convenient. I advise you to buy a second battery and a fast charger, otherwise charging takes more than 3 hours. With intensive use of photos and especially video, I did not have enough batteries for a day.

Pros
  • Compact (even very) size. Good, sensitive matrix. Good video. High detail photos and videos. I have never seen better night shots without a tripod from compacts. (with manual BB, of course).
Cons
  • 1. Non-precision lens mechanism without a damper (small backlash and chatter of the lens drive mechanics during weight unloading). It manifests itself when moving to the working position and when folding. When zooming on video (at the long end), the stabilizer is undermined. But the noise of the drive is heard, only in silence. Of course, this is not a video camera. not fatal. 2. The optical focal arrangement of the lens is not optimal due to its size. Very significant geometric distortion at the edges when shooting architectural scenes with parallax at the wide end. Or missing (insufficient) software correction. Perhaps this Lake is not a Leica at all. 3. Not all options for setting up the quick menu are implemented, for example, in the Auto, Auto +, etc. modes, there is no way except through the main menu to change the aspect ratio of the frame and many other minor quibbles. Built-in software and localization curve, not professionally written. It is enough to turn on the playback mode in the absence of pictures (pay attention to the type of text in 2022). Of course this will be fixed over time, I have no doubt, but for the Sony brand (with the corresponding price) it is a shame.
