Simple filtering.
That's all I needed. They work with very little air and are easy to hide in the back corners of your tank. I use a sponge filter in all my tanks in case the cooktop fails or gets clogged. In larger aquariums I use large double sponge filters but these are perfect for smaller aquariums. And if you're using a new tank for cycling, simply remove the sponge from the assembly and slide it over the new assembly in the "cycle" tank. Product.
