Review on ๐Ÿถ Herm Sprenger Dog Collar by Cheryl Brown

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Amazing results, if a bit bulky.

My Belgian Shepherd Dog/Tervuren was trained in the east except for walking on a loose leash. He loved to pull and, on rare occasions, tumble. After waiting too long to try the spiked collar, I was impressed by how quickly (instantly) he responded to it. Although a few times he'll tug and twist enough to cause a little pain, this is almost always not a problem. And certainly less discomfort than constant collar pressure. Since using this collar I have found that I can walk it off the leash in many calmer, less stimulating situations, but I don't except around properties and on some trails. When on a leash, he walks very well on a leash but sometimes tugs, mostly when trying to sniff something in passing. However, I would say it has gotten 90% better over the months we have been using it. Disadvantage: This 2.25 is definitely thinner than the thicker ones from HS. However, when I first tried the HS collar with thicker tines, the tines themselves were too long. I really wish these prong lengths had thicker metal. My needles spread twice and the collar tried to fall off. Ultimately, I don't think it's snug enough, but my dog had LOTS of long, thick hair on the back of his neck. Sometimes it's difficult to get the collar tight with all that fur on because the two pins on one part have to be aligned with the two small pin holes on the attached part and the pins have to be squeezed a little to make them fit. But it's worth it, and now I can do it faster with some experience. Another downside, my dog immediately understands the difference when wearing this collar and when the leash is attached to his regular collar. This slightly changes his behavior. He's much more prone to pulling when it's not his, so I usually leave him with me wherever we go where he's on a leash. The upside, though, is that even without this collar, he can now fix things much faster with a simple "Stay with me" command, or just clear his throat. Overall this collar was great and my boy no longer bucks up on walks, sits up quicker when I stop and is much less likely to jump up and down on people he meets on a walk. This eliminated the need for an e-collar to increase the effectiveness of training after another supplemental reinforcement was given.
