Review on Godox S-Type Bracket Bowens Mount Holder for Speedlite Flash: Snoot, Softbox, Beauty Dish, Reflector, Umbrella by Christian Byrd

Revainrating 5 out of 5

This is by far the best budget S mount I've found.

Finally taken out of the box and used on a softbox that came with its own mount. This is without a doubt the best Bowens S mount I have and I have several mounts in my collection. Here's what I like: 1. Allows me to put my lightning bolt in the modifier instead of trying to line it up with a hole. If you've ever tried fitting a flash to a hole in a softbox with a trigger, you know what I mean. Connect a bare bulb to a strip box with this mount and it's magic! 2. Real S mount, attaching a large soft box is very easy, and one click makes it clear that it is attached. The softbox no longer detaches in the hand when rotating.3. Everything that comes in contact with the flash is covered with a soft lining. For a lot of my breakouts, that doesn't matter because they've been around for a while. I have 4 new SB-910s and I want to keep them in good condition for as long as possible. 4. The flash can be mounted with the head in the same direction as the modifier size, in a strip box the head is vertical instead of horizontal. Sounds small but helps to get even coverage in a rectangular modifier.5. The tilt handle has a release button to turn it sideways. I have mounts that cost double what I paid for these that have the handle getting stuck where it's tight, even if it's interfering with the rotation of the softbox. Here's what I don't like: 1. It's all plastic. I know for $20 it will be plastic, at least it seems very strong and well made, no roughness or burrs. Everything about it fits and works, nothing about it looks like it will cut me.2. The tilt adjustment is very rough, I have no problem with that, but I installed it on a lightweight swivel stand when I didn't want to fiddle with it. Use with a clear umbrella and you'll never notice, use a fine-mesh nozzle and you'll notice. In general I really like it, quite a bit of design has gone into it and it shows in the results.

Pros
  • Heavy Duty
Cons
  • Damaged

Works great with Speedlights and Bowens-mount accessories.. but not so great with umbrellas.
