I bought this for my mother who is hard of hearing. There are two ways to increase the volume. There's a prominent rocker switch on the side (like many phones). Then there is a button labeled Boost. The side rocker has up to four volume divisions. The problem is that it defaults to the lowest volume and you have to crank it up every time you make a call, which is a problem for older people and they need to be aware of this so they can hear the call. I suppose with constant repetition they might remember, but it's a pain. Also, the initial volume is surprisingly lower than a regular phone. Why is it like this? This phone was designed for people with hearing impairments, so why not start with at least the same volume as any regular phone? I had hearing problems on this low default volume phone! However, if you try pressing the side volume button and then Boost, the phone boosts really well. The rest of the phone is nice and visible too. I also like the treble boost settings 1 and 2 for people who just need the treble boost. Good idea.
