My 90 year old mother likes

My mother is 90 years old and cannot see, hear or hold objects well. The phone is light and feels good in the hand. The numeric keypad is large and backlit for easy viewing. The loud call is awesome, she can really hear it and the boost feature is great for low volume calls.

Pros
  • Free for educational purposes
Cons
  • Don't know exactly

Excellent phone for the elderly

Finally my father can use his mobile phone. My father is an elderly man with dementia. He can spend as much time as it takes to dial a phone number. The numbers are large and easy to see. We've created a small table of assigned numbers for speed dialing. This is the third phone we've tried. It's easier to use than the free phone offered in California for people with hearing/visual impairments. The phone times out before it finishes dialing the phone number.

My mom and I thought she would hate it and never use it

I bought this for my almost 90 year old grandma who has macular degeneration in both eyes. Mom and I thought she would hate it and never use it, but SHE LOVES IT. I would highly recommend this to anyone. My grandmother said that she likes the big screen because it's very bright and she can read it at night without glasses. She also likes the size of the keys and that they are backlit too. Now we're thinking about replacing all the phones in her house with these.

Pros
  • Quality construction
Cons
  • Requires an outlet

Poor amplification Clarity

If this phone is to be used in an environment with hearing loss, it is not suitable. This phone has very poor clarity to the listener and caller when amplification is used. Causes distortion in both listener and caller. Bought this model twice and both only lasted about a year before failing. I bought a ClearSounds A400 to replace it and it has greatly improved the hearing gain for both the listener and the caller. With the ClearSounds A400, you can also set the gain to always on in the…

Enhanced cordless phone with large buttons

Bought this phone for my father who is blind and very hard of hearing. Finally we can hear and understand each other. Earlier when we talked I could tell that he couldn't understand me and the conversation didn't really satisfy either of us. Now we talk more often and he hears what I say thanks to the amplifier. He has Parkinson's and the cordless nature of the phone allows him to keep it close to him so he no longer has to walk across the living room to answer a call. Great price and works…

Good idea but problems

I bought this for my mother who is hard of hearing. There are two ways to increase the volume. There's a prominent rocker switch on the side (like many phones). Then there is a button labeled Boost. The side rocker has up to four volume divisions. The problem is that it defaults to the lowest volume and you have to crank it up every time you make a call, which is a problem for older people and they need to be aware of this so they can hear the call. I suppose with constant repetition they might
