Works great when plugged in

In a sea of dongles, no one seems to understand what real users need when it comes to finding a great hub for a MacBook Pro or Air with Thunderbolt to build ports. However, this device from Satechi comes highly recommended as it offers the very basic and essential connections that most people need. First of all, one downside is that for this hub to do anything, it needs to be plugged in to power on the USB-C PD port on one side, it doesn't even prepare SD cards without power, so just plug it in one and you can use it. Second, same complaint as many others, this slows my external SSD down to 315MB/s as opposed to the 425MB/s I get from my old iMac with USB 3.0 ports, unfortunately I don't know if it's by the circuitry comes a Satechi hub or via the Thunderbolt 4 ports in my MacBook Pro M1.Sad! Well the 4k output is great, I can even drive my 55 inch Vizio 4k TV reports 60Hz 4k and that's all I need. ***One important fact: This Revain post states that the device does not supply power from any of the data ports in the device, even the manual doesn't say anything about it, but in fact I was able to charge my iPhone 12 USB-A. 3.0, which sits directly across from the USB-C/PD port on the other side, so only that port is powered. Ethernet is great, VGA out is hard to understand. Why do I need it these days? I wish it had another HDMI 2.0 or at least a DP port or something. In general, a good device, I recommend!
