I bought this to reduce the number of cables going to the Onkyo TX-NR686 receiver. After connecting the device to the Wii and an HDMI cable to the appropriate input on my receiver, I got picture and sound straight away. However, when I switched the Wii's output to 480p, the image kept flickering. I've tried swapping out the included HDMI cable for a known working one, but that didn't fix the issue. I ended up connecting my existing Monoprice Wii component cables directly to my TV (Sony XBR-65X850E) to switch the Wii's video output back to 480i (the receiver's component video inputs only accept 480i). The sound quality when using the device (via HDMI) is excellent and the video quality is the same as when the Wii is connected to my receiver's component video inputs (my TV does a good job of deinterlacing the picture). For me, just one [black] HDMI cable to my receiver costs $9.99 compared to five [white] cables with RCA connectors.
