With my wild projects I usually jump before I'm fully prepared and while I was attempting to build my Toadstool Dollhouse I had already started the project before I even started to think about what I will decorate the outside. I wanted something light, smooth and pliable and thought of paper mache or air dried clay for a while but both are bulkier and heavier than I wanted. I was looking for different materials and came across a cosplayer who made something with Foam Clay. I thought it would be a brilliant option and I wasn't wrong. In work it resembles soft marshmallow, but without stickiness. I created the base armature on the wood and aluminum foil frame. I used styrofoam directly for the stem of the mushroom. It's really great how it applies textured but swells and smooths out a bit as it dries. The smoother you make it when you apply it, the smoother it will be when it dries. I apply two coats on each surface. To make the surface of the mushroom cap even smoother, I added hat mouling, which is basically a thin layer of wool or polyester filler used for quilting. I glued it to the foil reinforcement and then coated it with styrofoam. This made it possible to achieve a beautiful, flawless surface. Dries slightly harder than neoprene. He has a small payoff. It can be sanded, painted and is very versatile for handicrafts. I can think of so many applications you could use it for. From costumes and cosplay to models, miniatures, toy making and more. Excellent goods. Full recommendation! It's not cheap. For the amount you get it seems a little pricey. I had to use two tubs for this project.
