I use these collars on all of the dogs that I walk with except very small dogs and those with medical conditions that prevent them from using the collar on walks. Too bad they didn't make the 5lb and under version of this. I've seen other companies do this. A lost dog is a walking nightmare. I know other companies that have lost dogs to loose collars so I never wanted that to happen to me and so far it has never happened. When properly adjusted, it will prevent the dog from slipping off, but not tightening enough to injure the dog. It also doesn't irritate most dogs' skin unless they are very sensitive. Lasts really long. I change mine every two years just to make sure they are still good, but even after this long, very regular use they honestly looked good. No fraying, etc. If your dog cannot use the collar as the main leash attachment point, but you are concerned about your dog slipping out of the harness, you can use a 4" connector to connect the collar to the base. Leash clip and then attach the leash clip to the harness. So it's more of a backup. You can also use it with a collar in the same way. Since I started this I haven't had a single dog wearing a collar.
